editor of Provost Marshal of CharlestonThe Rev. Canon Robert Girard Carroon, D.Litt., is the Director of Scholarship Programs for the Society for the Increase of the Ministry of the Episcopal Church. A native of Missouri, he was ordained in 1962. He has served parishes in Wisconsin and Connecticut and for twenty years was on the staff of the Diocese of Connecticut where he was Archivist, Historiographer and Assistant for Administration. Prior to that appointment he served as Curator of Research Collections of the Milwaukee County Historical Society and as Executive Director of the Litchfield CT Historical Society. He received his undergraduate degree from Indiana State University and graduate degrees in history and theology from Nashotah House Seminary, the University of Wisconsin, and Sussex University. He currently serves as the Secretary of the Board of Archives of the Episcopal Church. Dr. Carroon is the author of five books, including three (From Freeman’s Ford to Bentonville , Union Blue and Broadswords and Bayonets) on military history. He is a member of a number of hereditary and military organizations including the Society of the Cincinnati, Sons of the American Revolution, Society of Colonial Wars, Military Order of the Loyal Legion, Military Order of the Stars and Bars and the Huguenot Society.
